Israel closes British Consulate in east Jerusalem amid dispute with UK:
Israel has closed the British Consulate in east Jerusalem and removed its official signage in response to sanctions and other measures imposed by the UK Labour government.
The consul-general and 19 other diplomats are ending their assignments and leaving Israel. Seven British diplomats will be permitted to operate from the building as part of a smaller mission with limited responsibilities.
Israel is also removing British representatives from the International Gaza Support Center in Kiryat Gat, ending British military training programs for Palestinian Authority forces in Judea and Samaria, and barring 12 British officials and activists from entering the country.
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar said the steps followed a series of hostile British actions, including sanctions targeting Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria, restrictions on defense exports, and the freezing of free-trade negotiations.
